More Holiday Karaoke Fun: San Diego Reader

When one of the most respected and widely read publications in San Diego first called Rock Out Karaoke to play their staff holiday party, we were certainly excited.  I mean, these are some of the most influential people in the region: writers, editors, bloggers for the San Diego Reader — they all have opinions and they have the forum to share those opinions.  We knew we would have to make a great first impression.

Our friends at the House of Blues set us up in the Delta Room, a private space that is great for these types of events (probably holds around 100 people comfortably).  It’s got a lot of great seating (read: cushy couches) and, of course, has its own private bar.  On this particular night, Reel Big Fish was playing in the music hall, so the party guests had access to that concert as well.  From what we can tell, they all opted to stay close and rock out with us instead.

We cranked up the volume and it was on!  Talk about a karaoke crowd – these guys pulled out everything from Lynyrd Skynyrd to the Proclaimers, complete with props and costumes!  The free-flowing open bar helped warm up their vocal cords, and by the end of the night everyone was singing along.  I think it’s safe to say we NAILED IT, but of course we couldn’t have done it without help from the fun-loving staff from the Reader.  Many thanks – and we hope to see you all again next year!

Software Company + Woodstock = ??

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.

What do you get when you cross a leading software company with Woodstock?  Ok, so there’s no punchline here – but I can speak from experience when I say that this combo results in a pretty awesome corporate karaoke party.

We had the privilege of playing (for the second time in three years) for a local company called TriTech Software Systems.  As we understand it, TriTech makes software that helps first responders get where they need to be on time – you know, saving lives and stuff.

What you may not know is that these folks love to party – and they’re great singers to boot.  Just check out the photos below (taken by the talented Rob Andrew) for a look at this Woodstock-themed karaoke event and give us a buzz if we can help make your corporate event one to remember.

Karaoke Summer 2011

As we wrap up another great San Diego summer, Rock Out Karaoke would just like to thank our loyal fans who continue to support us week after week.  We always love having you on the stage with the band and enjoy seeing your smiling faces on a regular basis.

Here’s a quick recap of our crazy karaoke summer:

We kicked off the official start of summer with one of the best party ideas we’ve seen in a long time:  The Local’s Pub Crawl to the Park.  Live band karaoke was the second stop along the way, and over 500 people packed the House of Blues San Diego to sing with the band.  See the full story for photos and more.

June was also the start of our San Diego County Fair run, where we met tons of great karaoke singers during our three performances there.  2011 marked our second year of playing live band karaoke on one of the big stages, and we hope to see you there again in 2012.  We played a total of 13 karaoke shows in the month of June – our busiest ever!

July marked another record-setting month.  The highlight of the month was the 2011 Comic-Con after party, otherwise known as TechKaraoke.  Our friends at Twonky sponsored a great karaoke party and posted a few pictures.

The hard-working law students over at Thomas Jefferson Law School asked us to play their back-to-school social event in August, which turned out to be an awesome time.  Imagine live band karaoke on a perfect San Diego evening, while watching the sunset and fireworks over Mission Bay.  Yeah, it was pretty spectacular.

Of course, we enjoyed our summer fun at House of Blues San Diego every Wednesday night.  And finally, we can’t forget the crazy nights we had at 710 Beach Club as we continue our 2+ year run there playing live band karaoke with you every Thursday night.

As we look back, it really was a great summer.  Thanks to everyone who made it possible.  Our holiday private party schedule is starting to take shape, so don’t hesitate to contact us for your own company events, birthday parties, and more.

What was your favorite Rock Out Karaoke summer moment?  Leave a comment and let us know!

Twitter Friends

San Diego’s best live band karaoke is all over the internet:  blogging, Facebook, Yelp!, YouTube, and even Twitter.  You might wonder why we spend time on all this stuff.  Sure, we need a website (or in our case a WordPress blog) and Facebook makes sense for us to post our pictures, but what about Twitter?  Lots of folks have pretty big misconceptions about what Twitter really is and how it is useful.  Have you heard these before?

“Isn’t that just for teeny boppers?”

“Why do I care what you had for lunch?”

Fact is, most Twitter users are old (insert reliable, well-cited statistic here).  And while a few people are sharing what they had for lunch, many more are actually sharing great ideas, websites, and in this case, events.

Thursday, October 28th marked the first (hopefully of many) “Tweetup” with Rock Out Karaoke.  A Tweetup is a meetup for folks on Twitter.  Now I’ve been to a few of these before, and it’s always pretty neat to find someone who knows your name, logo, and online persona but has never met you in person.

We had the chance last week to not only meet some of our “tweeps” at this particular 710 Beach Club show, but we had a great time when they joined us on stage for some great live band karaoke!

The event was inspired by @gingeranderson (a Twitter “handle” always begins with @) after an ongoing conversation about the TV show Glee.  Ginger created the incredibly user-friendly invitation and response website using Tweetvite – an easy way to spread the word about events, register, and let others know you’re coming.

Those in attendance included @californiakara, @nataliewardel (the artist formerly known as @mrsnatalie), @iizliz, @babyblooze (those last two may or may not be the same person), @sugarjones, @socalsally … notice a pattern here?  They’re all women!  I think there were a couple of token guys there, husbands and whatnot, but who really pays attention to dudes anyway?  Ok, fine, thanks to @dannyboy72, @babyface_GM (our Tweep from waaaay back when), and the other husbands/arm candy for coming as well!  Hope I didn’t miss anyone.

We even got a couple of sweet blog mentions from Sugar and Natalie afterward.  Be sure to subscribe to both of their blogs – great reading on a variety of topics.  Also, here’s a video of Natalie’s husband and one of Kara rocking it on stage with us!

It was pretty cool to finally meet some of these folks in person and even more fun knowing that they enjoyed the show.  Here’s hoping the #sdrockout Tweetup becomes a monthly event!  Thanks, Twitter.  You can be our friend…
